Using photos, artifacts, and film footage, this exhibit highlights Jackson’s personal and professional perspective of three chaotic days in November of 1963 from President Kennedy’s arrival at Dallas Love Field to accused assassin Lee Harvey Oswald’s murder.

Stunning exhibition celebrates the traditional art of Chinese red sandalwood carving and is highlighted by a nine foot tall model of the Ten Thousand Springs. One fifth the size of the original pavilion – found within the Imperial Garden in the Forbidden City in Beijing – the model was constructed from 3,000 hand-carved pieces using a mortise-and-tenon joinery (no nails). The exhibition also features photographs and text panels, in English and Chinese, with information about the Imperial Garden and the Forbidden City. On loan from the Smithsonian Institution.

The movement and creativity of the performing arts are on full display ad the Dallas Museum of Art present’s “All the World’s a Stage”, featuring over 100 specially selected works from the Museum’s expansive collections.

Visit the Wendy and Emery Reves Collection on the Museum’s third floor, which is acclaimed for its many important Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works of art. Twenty-five years ago, the Dallas Museum of Art received a one-of-a-kind gift of more than 1,400 works authorized by Wendy Reves in honor of her late husband, Emery Reves. In addition to Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and modern paintings, it included sculptures, works on paper, and decorative arts objects, all of which are displayed in a recreation of the Reves’s Riviera home, Villa La Pausa. This spectacular bequest transformed the DMA’s collection of late 19th century French art and her donation of European decorative arts founded the institution’s collection in that area.

A special audio tour highlights selected masterpieces from the Reves Collection, including works by Edouard Manet, Paul Cezanne, Camille Pissarro, Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin, Vincent Van Gogh, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pierre Bonnard, and Maurice de Vlamnick. New materials on the Reves Collection that can be accessed on Wi-Fi enabled smartphones and media players will also be available for the first time.

The Kimbell plays host to 100 of the most important European paintings and sculptures ever held in private collections in Texas. Most of them are works normally hidden from public view, ranging from glorious Impressionist paintings that once decorated ranchers’ homes in West Texas to gems of Renaissance and Baroque art owned by the great collectors of Dallas and Houston. Since first coming into wealth on a national scale in the 1920s, Texans have continued to assert a record of art collecting of the highest discernment. Over 40 collectors will be represented, and among the artists to be featured are Guercino, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Monet, Renoir, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, and Mondrian.

Jacob Lawrence: The Life of Toussaint L’Ouverture will celebrate the artistry of Jacob Lawrence, an important American painter and print maker. Jacob Lawrence (1918-2000) created 15 dramatic and colorful silk-screen prints based on a series of 41 paintings entitled The Life of Toussaint L’Ouverture that he completed in 1938. This exhibition will present all fifteen silk-screen prints from the Curtis Ransom Collection of African American Art, alongside the Dallas Museum of Art’s painting The Visitors, and a related portrait photograph by Arnold Newman of the artist from the DMA’s collections. Toussaint L’Ouverture was a leader in the Haitian revolution. Born a slave, he became commander in chief of the revolutionary army in 1800. In 1804, Haiti became the first black Western republic. L’Ouverture was instrumental in drafting independent Haiti’s first democratic constitution. Through these powerful works about L’Ouverture and the Haitian revolution, Lawrence presents his vision of humanity’s struggle toward unity and equality.

In 1900, Edward S. Curtis undertook the momentous task of documenting American Indian cultures across the United States. Over the next thirty years, he took over 40,000 photographs and collected information about more than eighty tribes, ranging from the Inuit people of the far north to the Hopi people of the Southwest. The Amon Carter Museum will display a selection of works from this compelling new acquisition.

This significant collection of African American Art includes paintings, sculptures, works on paper, graphics and documents covering a period of 200 years. The exhibition also features artifacts from the Schomburg Center for Research of Black Culture, New York Public Library.

Andy Warhol: The Last Decade is the first U.S. museum survey exhibition to explore the work that this seminal American artist produced during the final eight years of his life. Warhol entered a period of renewed vigor and enthusiasm in the 1980s that resulted in what was arguably the most productive period of his career. The exhibition includes approximately 55 works lent by private collections and institutions.

Opening February 21 at the Dallas Museum of Art is The Lens of Impressionism, an exploration of Impressionist painting’s response to early photography within the context of a single geographic locale that was intensely explored by painters and photographers in the second half of the 19th century, the coast of Normandy. The convergence of social, artistic, technological and commercial forces along the Normandy coast dramatically transformed the course of photography and painting, ultimately making a profound impact on the history of early Impressionism. Among the artists represented in this beautiful exhibition are painters Claude Monet, Edouard Manet, and Gustave Courbet, and the photographers Gustav Le Gray, Henri Le Seq, and Louis-Alphonse Davanne.

The exhibit will present approximately 90 works, including photographs, paintings, drawings and prints. Forty photographs, most of them vintage prints, and thirty-eight paintings, pastels and watercolors will be shown, along with a selection of prints, maps and ephemera evoking the new touristic culture of the Normandy coast.

A baroque ode to the energy, grace and power of youth, this show, whose name means ’jubilation" in Spanish, will thrill audiences of all ages.
